How You're Meant to Eat A Complete Guide to Awaken Your Intuition For a Seamless GuiltFree Eating Experience Avishek Saha 9781985758414 Books Reviews

  • I have played many roles in my eating journey. It began with fearing my body and its possible sizes, then trying to become a top performing athlete as well as a conscious eater, to now of just a healthy happy individual.

I have not ever had size problems other than people asking me what I eat as I am small. Trust me, that isn't fun either. And yet, every teen has 'size' thoughts, so his journey hits home. I wish I had this book years back....to help me know these steps.

Then, I was almost plagued with just trying to eating the best foods for sports recovery and feeling guilty if I ate sugar or a morsel of meat for spiritual reasons. Ah, the anguish I have inflicted upon myself. And to think that if I had had this book to just RELAX and understand emotionally and scientifically that the gimmicks of raw vegan to paleo are just that. Frankly, I have been blessed with so many ready to eat options to explore and enjoy the eating journey. This book gives permission to understand this as well. It gives exercises to truly learn about what works for you. We are so diverse in our foods, cultures, and journey. It provides structure while feeling like a friend is talking with you to guide through this intimate process.

Thank you for writing this book. I hope more people read and hear this strong voice. It is well-balanced wisdom, vulnerability, and intelligence of many perspectives.
  • Avishek’s writings and advice have spearheaded the return to a balance in my life, and a reconnection to foods and eating habits that had been on the sidelines for too many years. There is no hype or gimmickry in what he had to say. He is notably educated in terms of science, is a highly capable and devoted researcher, and blends wisdom with both openness and curiosity. No matter how far we go in our educations, we all remain students...on a path to higher knowledge.

By being straightforward, and untainted by big-pharma and big-agriculture, he shows a path to healthy eating that it sorely needed. We have an obligation to ourselves to do the best for our bodies/minds that we can, but that is paradoxically difficult with the over-commercialization of the whole food concept, and the covert sponsorship of it by the industries whose goal is simply to make enormous profits.

Longevity in my family is the norm. Typically my ancestors (going back several generations) have lived well into their late 90s and seldom have required any extreme or continuous medical intervention. By reading this book I have been able to retrace my ancestral steps and learn to have the relationship with food I was meant to have. The lifelong cravings I have had for the wrong food choices has vanished, and I am finding a dietary satisfaction I had previously known only on occasion. Staying lean and healthy has stopped being an obsession, and while I have begun to feel better than I have in the past 15 years, I am no longer my diet….I just make the right choices based on the author’s guidance back to my own path.
  • Avishek does a thorough job of explaining the reality to what eating should actually look like and how far away we’ve come from what our “diet” should truly look like - which has led to the epidemic of thousands of fad diets all promising to be the golden ticket to health and a perfect body.. which none can be sustained long term. This leads to confusion and a dependency on them - the diets and so called “lifestyles” rather, than just listening and trusting our own bodies, as it should be. It really is that simple. Listen to your body, trust it and then honor it.

Avi shows the crucial difference between eating intuitively and how freeing and Health promoting it can be, versus the dangerous life-sucking diets that have claimed to be the answer to all our questions, the quick-fix-instant-gratification diets.

Diet culture has created this mess, so the only way to empower yourself and be able to truly live a life of freedom, is to change your mindset towards food and eating by implementing what Avi talks about in this book can help you get back on track and truly get your health and fitness back!

    Thank you for this book!!
  • I like it.

The author talks about HOW to eat whereas most "diet books" really just talk about WHAT you should eat. If you just measure out your food on a scale or with measuring spoons and cups you're too being too left-brained about it and not giving yourself a chance to get curious about what your hunger urges really look like. Most of us in the fast-paced world have lost some amount of connection to our own intuition, not just around eating and moving but about being human in general.

The other thing I like about this book is that, the author wants to help you understand that relying on scientific studies to make all of your food (or any) decisions is only a part of the whole picture. This is important, as you'll see random news articles come out and then people get all reactive and talk about changing their nutrition habits around, like, the results of a 6-week study.

I expect this to be one of two nutrition books I read this year (the other one being a re-read of Mark Hyman's The Ultramind Solution).
  • Very insightful & informative
  • Great read. Learned a lot of new stuff. Keep it up.
  • I like this book. Avishek is one of the few that I've found who actually backs up what he says with scientific research. He talks about the different diet fads out there and how dangerous they can be, especially to blind followers who just don't do their own research before embarking on a diet journey. Listening to your body truly is the best thing to do. It might not be a super easy read for the layperson with all the science stuff, but it is quite informative. I like the sciencey stuff as it gives authors more credibility.
