"I own the hardcover version of this book. I purchased the kindle addition, but am very dissapointed with the low quality of the image scans that were taken of the diagrams from the original text for the kindle. The drawings are badly washed out in many cases with multiple contour lines are missing. It was a waste of money to buy this version. With a little more care in the scanning process this could have been available tool for many artists, but little was given. Artists who buy anatomy books generally expect image the images in such books to be better than low grade photocopies. In digital format there is no reason these scans should be so bad other than carelessness on the part of the person doing the scanning."

• really needs to separate the ebook from regular book reviews. The regular hardback is an easy 5 stars. In the version, the images are a little too compressed, and although they get the point across, are to low resolution for this kind of technical book. Just zooming in a little bit on a hi-rez tablet, and you see texels and compression way too early in the illustrations, and you can hardly make out the muscle fibers, etc. that are so clearly illustrated in the original image. This anatomy book, originally a fairly large and heavy technical AND illustration hardback is a standard in the film/game industry, and the illustrations, are expertly rendered with painstaking detail by the author. aught to give these types of technical books, or any illustration book for that matter, a MUCH higher memory allowance than they are allowing these days. I was hoping this book was available as an ibook where visual quality would probably be given a higher priority, but is not yet available (11/2015), hence buying the version.

• 'Human Anatomy for Artists The Elements of Form' by Goldfinger is just perfect, especially if you want to know where the muscles actually attach to bone, something many anatomy books for artists simply don't cover. The Goldfinger book, for each muscle or group of muscles, has one or more side-by-side series of illustration and photos that shows
  
  - the naked bones in a given area with highlights that show you the surface areas where an individual muscle attaches, even if that muscle is an underlying muscle that normally is completely covered by surface muscles.
  
  - the muscle or muscles in question attached to their bones in isolation (no other muscles illustrated).
  
  - all the muscles in the given area to show the relation ship between them and the muscle that is the subject of the series, even if the muscle in question is virtually covered up.
  
  - a photo of a well-toned human model in the same pose as the illustration series with labels to the various muscles.
  
  - one or more cross-sections (up to five or more) of the area being illustrated with each muscle labeled to show clearly how the muscles over-lap and lay across each other and the underlying bone.
  
  - if necessary, the model will be shown in a pose that shows how an underlying, virtually hidden muscle is important to the artist when the subject is in a certain pose (e.g., an underlying muscle can lift and change the form of the surface muscles when it is in contraction and/or the body is in a certain pose).
  
  - a series of 'mass' diagrams that may be of use in building a 'shorthand' for the muscle or group in question.
  
  - It's not just a picture book. It has a lot of descriptive text for each of the series of illustrations, and covers aspects important to artists, such as the different types of muscle fibers, etc.
  
  I counted at least 17 of these series dealing just with attachments to the clavicle, but I might have missed some since the organization is by area (trunk, neck, upper arm, forearm, etc.) and there are a lot of attachments to the clavicle from more than one of these areas. Also, there may be more than one series dedicated to a given muscle or group of muscles so that it is shown from back, front, side, and/or above, sometimes. The illustrations are as good or better than the best I've ever seen in any other anatomy book, especially ones for artists, which can be sketchy to a degree.
  
  I really don't think you need a library of anatomy books if you get just this one.
• I recently got this book and really love it. It is exactly what I've been wanting. It shows you -- all on the same page -- every muscle, its origin and insertion on the skeleton, what it looks like alone, where it falls in the muscles surrounding it, and finally what it looks like on the surface of the living model (in a small photograph). I had been working with the Anatomy Coloring Book, which is a very good book also, but felt I needed to understand where each muscle is attached to the bone. I was looking up this information muscle by muscle from a medical dictionary -- but it was rough going. Goldfinger's book has it all already! And it is presented visually all on the same page so you can see it at a glance and really understand it. The body is so complex -- it is still going to be rough going to get to the point of understanding where I want to be, but I think this book will be my most helpful resource in getting there.

• Very good book that lets you skim or go deep. Either way, you get valuable information on both OSPF, IS-IS, their similarities and their differences, and understand the reason why.
• I am one of the few who have worked in ISIS and not OSPF..

• Popular MPLS applications require link state IGP, OSPF & IS-IS deliver. This book teaches what you need to know about both.
• Doyle does an excellent job of starting from ground zero and building up...
  
  Included are points of interest and concerns that a senior level net engineer might think of but someone beginning or intermediate may not quickly consider...
  
  I also like the fact that he compares and contrasts the two protocols side by side in the same section, not doing the 1/2 the book on ospf, then the other half on is-is or chapter specific. Each chapter will talk about a particular subject (say message types) and in the chapter he'll go through both protocols.
  
  Doyle also points out differences in IOS vs JUNOS which is real nice as well.

• I thought I was buying a great technical discussion on OSPF versus ISIS. Little did I know I would also get a very good history lesson on the early days before OSPF was the de facto enterprise routing protocol. Great all-around book. If you are into digital archaeology and technical reading you will love it!
• If you consider yourself a student of routing protocols and enjoy coverage of graph theory from the perspective of its application to link-state routing protocols, this text will certainly be a welcome addition to your library. This book not only provides information regarding 'how' link-state routing protocols work, it also provides information regarding 'why' the link-state routing protocols behave as they do, and why the protocol designers made certain choices in the development of these protocols. While it might seem a daunting task especially to the novice reader to learn about two routing protocols side-by-side, it is this treatment which makes this text so worthwhile. Being able to compare these two protocols and identify their similarities and differences simultaneously will ultimately help the network designer pick the right protocol for the job in a given network environment.
  
  This book goes beyond IGP fundamentals by giving practical advice to the network designer which can assist in the planning and implementation of a scalable IGP deployment. For example, in the chapter on Area Design, the author states that "a useful guideline when designing a network is that network control traffic should never exceed 5 percent of the available bandwidth of any link in the network, and in normal circumstances should not exceed 1 percent". The author then presents various formulas which can be used to determine the amount of bandwidth used by the protocol control traffic based on the number and type of LSAs which are expected to be present in a given network. Arguably one of the best chapters in the book is the chapter on Scaling. This chapter has some of the best coverage of the various modifications which router vendors make to their link-state protocol implementations in order to make routers perform calculations more rapidly, enhance flooding of Link-State updates, and other changes designed to make the protocols scale to support very large networks.
  
  I am a stickler for accuracy, especially when it comes to technical textbooks. I pride myself on my ability to spot technical and grammatical errors in texts such as these, however I must say as I read this book I was very impressed that I found very little errors beyond just the simple grammatical and typographical. Jeff Doyle is an experienced writer, and it should come as no surprise that the technical content in this book is extremely well-vetted, accurate, and error-free. Ultimately, if you are a network operator, designer or architect and are interested in broadening your understand of link-state protocols coupled with the ability to more fully understand the technical distinctions between OSPF and IS-IS, this book is without a doubt one of the best options on the market today.

• The best book written in Spain during the Franco era. A kind of gothic coming of age story of an 18 year old orphaned young woman who comes to live with her grandmother, uncles and aunts In 1940 Barcelona after the brutal Spanish Civil War. It got by Franco's censors as the author age 24 when she wrote this does not put in any politics related to the war although this war does play a part in the setting. I read it is Spanish and English. The story is suspenseful, beautifully written, and full of fascinating and strange people.
• This is an excellent novel. I didn't read the previously translated version but I recommend this one. It is very well written and I can understand all the critical acclaim.
• A classic. Beautiful translation.
• I read this for my Spanish class and was really enchanted with this edition. I am now a big fan of Laforet's work and want to read more Spanish literature.

• I had to read this book first for a class but loved it so much I wanted a copy of my own. Carmen Laforet is an extremely talented author and a great read if you enjoy works from the posguerra period in Spain. I found it easier to read than some works by other posguerra authors (Spanish is my second language so I sometimes struggle with some vocabulary).

When you start reading you realize it is not a real English language edited cookbook. In fact the recipes become more and more nonsensical until they are basically meaningless gibberish. Only buy this book if you are willing to donate $.99 to whatever or whoever in whatever country that has designed this to get you to part with $.99. I’ve alerted but apparently it’s still here. Read all the not quite English language reviews as well. Been had.

• One of the best if not the best book I have read on health and nutrition. Some of the medical terms may be mind boggling for some but in general a easily understood book. Well written. The author's knowledge of the subject is very obvious. I appreciated the information he gave on locating certain supplements. I would recommend this book to anyone with an illness looking for an answer.
• Thank you to Jack for writing a book that changed my life. I've gone from daily pain and suffering to living again. I've completely modified my diet in terms of what I eat, where I shop, the whole shebang.

• Learning a lot from this book, and it is very readable as well. I have RA that has been in remission for 12 years, I am also hypothyroid (auto immune driven), and recently during a stressful period of work I 'gave myself' some psoriasis.... so my body is essentially a playground for auto-immune disease. That said, I know that I can affect the (over) reaction of my immune system and maintain my health with diet, exercise and stress-reducing practices. I was REALLY good at that 12 years ago when I was working to put the RA into remission, and have fallen off the wagon somewhat over the years. When I am not taking care of myself as well, my joints will start to flare a bit, and that snaps me back to better practices.
  
  This book is a great refresher course and guidebook. I am also learning some new things (for instance pork will no longer be 'the other white meat' for me). Although I am not a science-minded person, I appreciate the detailed explanations for our body's processes and how certain types of food or lack of vitamins/amino acids create an inflammation response in our bodies.
  
  For those suffering from auto immune disease I can honestly attest to the powerful truths of this book. Make these changes and get better! It takes some work but it SO worth it to return your body to it's healthy balance (you will never get there with prescription drugs that just treat symptom after symptom). Our bodies have an amazing power to heal themselves when given the support they need. Short term medical solutions to restore balance or mute the immune response are fine, but for long-term health - the recommendations in this book are the answer.
• Great book - I am learning a lot. Just got told that I have RA -- this book is any eye opener on how to eat to help your inflammation. Jack Challem knows what he is talking about and he explains it very well.

  Inuyasha is a fun fantasy story set in feudal Japan. Though if you are buying Vol 13. You probably know a little bit about the story. If you are buying it for someone else Make sure they have the other issues leading up to it. Otherwise you miss a lot of story.
• Better than paying 1 volume at a time, cost less too from what i did with math. Will give them big Thumbs up!
• This volume has the rest of the Kikyou plot that was left off in book 12. It also has the third fight between Sesshomaru and Inuyasha where Inuyasha learns a new ability with his sword. Toutousai, who forged Tetsusaiga, appears in this book to bug Inuyasha and, of course, our favorite little toad, Jaken (note the sarcasm) appears as Sesshomaru's 'faithful' minion. [They] have gotten past this, so any American fans will know what's happening, but to true Inuyasha fans, you know that the manga has it's own special qualities (not to mention the differences in the manga and anime). I love it!
• If you've been following the love triangle in Inuyasha, this one will strike another conflict among the threes. Kagome almost got killed by Kikyou in the book and that gave Inuyasha a very uncomfortable feeling. Of course, Inuyasha wanted to be with Kagome, however, he still couldn't bare leaving Kikyou on her own after all those things b/w him and her in the past. I gave this book 5 stars because this is touching emotionally.

The Age of X series is like a bit the Harry Dresden supernatural mysteries, toss in some Honor Harrington military adventure, and a dash of Percy Jackson's world (a young adult book, but the only comparison I could find) for flavor - and you have Age of X.

The characters are well drawn, sometimes not very likeable, but very real and gritty. These are real people, not shining heroes, so if you're looking for role models, you won't find them here. These are broken people who step up to the plate when the world needs them. Involvement with drugs, alcohol, casual sex and sometimes really stupid personal life decision-making is part of these characters, but so is selflessness, love of family and friends, and courage.

The world-building is amazing. This is a future that isn't quite "post-apocalyptic," but it is very different from the one we know. It is a world where disease has ravaged the gene pool, leaving healthy mixed-bloods and genetically damaged pure bloods, but the world soldiered on.   It is no secret that we love paranormal books around the blog. A couple of years ago we read Vampire Academy and fell in love with the series. I was so upset when they ended, but my husband was probably happy. I literally had done nothing but read for a week straight. I was ridiculous and didn’t cook, clean or do anything. I was obsessed with those books! I knew that Bloodlines was a spin off series but I have been so busy with life that I could not take the time to read them. Until now!
  
  You will remember many characters in Bloodlines from VA; Sydney Sage the Alchemist, Adrian Ishkavov and Jill the Moroi, and Eddie Castille the Dhampir. Of course we see glimpses of Rose, Dimitri and others as well, which is nice.
  
  Bloodlines begins with Sydney going on assignment in Palm Springs to help protect Jill from a group of people trying to kill her to keep Lissa from the throne. Eddie, Jill and Sydney are going undercover as siblings and students at a boarding school. Adrian is staying nearby with another Moroi, Clarence and his son Lee is back and forth to LA for classes. This is also where Jill has her feedings.
  
  The other Alchemist, Keith Darnell, is posted in Palm Springs. To say he and Sydney don’t like each other is an understatement. He does not want Syd around and will do whatever it takes to keep reminding superiors of her actions in VA when she helped Rose.
  
  I love the way Richelle Mead can weave a complex storyline. Things start happening at school and around Palm Springs that cause Sydney to become suspicious. Will she risk being sent for re-training by the Alchemists by working with vampires and dhampirs again? Be sure and one click Bloodlines today and fall in love with the paranormal world she creates all over again!
• Absolutely love Game Board of the the Gods & The Immortal Crown! Richelle Mead is an amazing writer I own most of her books, but I will be so disappointed if the next book in the series Eye of Andromeda doesn't get published! Seriously! Just leaving us hanging! Does Mae find out who attacked her? Does she accept Lokie's offer? & Justin does he find out anything from Daphne? Does he find Mae's attacker? Do Justin & Mae end up together? & Senator Darling? What's his game & what God is he with? Does Mae get to see Ava again? Her mom & sister get arrested? Acadia does it fall along with their God? I could go on!
• oh my oh my looks like she moved on...loved this series, I have read all of her books except the glittering court series, that one isn't quite my style, however I may give them a shot since I love richelle's writing so very very much! This series, the age of x, is absolutely fantastic, I was unsure of it at first since it is more sci-fi-y than her other works, but there is such great chemistry between the characters, and its a book for adults which is nice to see from Mrs. Mead!!! I think her "Dark Swan " series is my absolute favorite, if you haven't read it you should definitely pick it up!! I simply ask that you please continue this series as I am dying to know how it ends!!!

"I am relatively new to reading this genre. I bought it for my partner but partially because of the regional location of it. I grew up in Cleveland area, but anywhere around Great Lakes region always grabs my interest. The stories were stark and moving. Sad but reality based, just life as life is for many people. Nothing extraordinary or glamorous, but the book exudes plenty of emotion. Sadness, growth, independence, love and loss, caring, regret, deception. I loved the regional feel of it, the hockey, the snow, the bird that appears throughout, and I got reminded of CKLW- the radio station I remember hearing in Cleve-back in the day. Search it on goog and it's still a station- news out of Windsor- it had been a top 40 radio station- pioneering the top 40 format back when I was a listener (mid60s-70s). I will surely check out more of Jeff Lemire's work.

• Essex County is really three books in one, with common themes of hockey, isolation, and disability. Book 1 Tales From the Farm is the story of a boy growing up on his uncle's farm in the modern day. He befriends a gas-station worker who played one game with the Toronto Maple Leafs and got brain damaged from a hit in that one game. Book 2 Ghost Stories takes place in the modern day with flashbacks to his life, starting with his career as a minor-league hockey player in the 1950s, along with his brother. Book 3 The County Nurse is about the nurse from Book 2. Book 3 ties together the characters from the previous volumes. Also included are "The Essex County Boxing Club" and "The Sad and Lonely Life of Eddie Elephant Ears."
  
  I'd read Jeff Lemire before, but nothing prepared me for this. I'd read Joe Matt, Seth, and Chester Brown, but I wasn't ready for Jeff Lemire's Canada. This is really one of the comic world's masterworks, up there with Craig Thompson's Blankets and little else. The three books and the two short stories add up to over 500 pages of this wonderful volume. I can't wait to share it with my family and friends. *****
• I'm going to review this series as a whole and not separately, because you cannot take one book away from the trilogy. I have never been a huge fan of graphic novels, or sports related stories in general. This trilogy is both, a graphic novel that centers around hockey, specifically the Toronto Maple Leafs, so I didn't know how engrossing it would be or if I made the right choice buying it. It was lying around my house for a while before I finally picked it up and started reading...when suddenly I was on to the second volume, then the third, then I was online looking up more of Jeff Lemire's work...
  
  Wow. What a fantastic series this turned out to be. I was fully immersed in the lives of those characters that I was surprised to get to the last page. The illustrations and artwork were so profoundly beautiful, I could feel my heart clench at a simple expression drawn on a character's face, a simple sigh, a simple bow of the head.
  
  The first book portrays the lives of Lester, a young boy who has just lost his mother to cancer, and his Uncle Ken. Lester moved in with his uncle after his mother's death, but can't seem to get along or find any common ground between them, leaving their relationship awfully strained and awkward. All of which is beautifully portrayed through the illustrations, making you breath the awkwardness and tension between them. Lester then befriends Jimmy, an older, childlike man, who runs the local gas station after suffering an injury, which ended his professional hockey career. Lester and Jimmy love to play pretend, in which Lester is a superhero out to save the world from aliens. Lester finds he can be himself around Jimmy, even sharing with him the comics he's drawn.
  
  The second book talks about two brothers Lou and Vince, primarily through a series of flashbacks that Lou is having, in which so much regret is depicted. This, for me, was the all time favourite of all three volumes. The artwork was so powerful and expressive that it almost brought me to tears. So many emotions, so many provocative moments. Jeff Lemire has outdone himself with this one. The artwork is very simple, black and white drawings, with very little dialogue. You could go pages without a single word written or spoken by any of the characters, but the illustrations alone would tell the story. The one page that really stuck in my mind is a series of panels, in which Lou and Vince and his son Jimmy are watching hockey on TV and you can tell the years passing, by the way they were aging from one panel to another and the way Jimmy was getting bigger and bigger, until you reach the last panel where it's just Lou and Vince watching Jimmy playing on TV. Absolutely brilliant portrayal of time passing, without having to spell it out to the reader that the years are, in fact, going by.
  
  Another example of the brilliance of Lemire's artwork was in the beautiful depiction of Lou meeting Vince's girlfriend for the first time. You immediately know what will happen just from their facial expressions upon meeting. You can tell. You can see it from the very beginning just by that one moment they share. And yet, when it happens, it doesn't make it any less disappointing and does not take away the shame and regret that accompanies that incident.
  
  Then there's the third volume that illustrates the life of nurse Annie Quenneville, who is going around working her shifts. The one shift the comic focuses on is Lou's, where we find out that the nurse looks after Lou, who has gone deaf, has a drinking problem and barely speaks. She also looks after her own grandmother, who has a story of her own that we end up reading about through flashbacks and memories.
  
  Beautiful novels, all connected and interconnected in the most incredibly subtle ways making it look effortless. All the stories come together, until it climaxes right where we started - with Lester and uncle Ken.
  
  Wonderful, wonderful series. I am so glad I bought it, and I feel privileged to have experienced this sort of brilliant work.
• Even if you have never read a graphic novel or comic book, even if you have never read a book, please consider this wonderful, compelling collection of visually stimulating and expertly written interconnected stories about ... well,... life. It reaches deep into your soul, taps into your own experiences and imaginings, and relates them to the individuals, experiences, and legacy of small communities around the world. And all of it is so effectively delivered via simple visuals, sparse narrative, and a real-world voice.
• I finished this graphic novel within one sitting. It is simply a great collection of story's that flow together perfectly to give the intricate story of a Canadian county. Everything about this story and plot is real and genuine. This story just is so great, worth buying for sure. Especially if you love comics. One down side might be the black and white, some people prefer colors but personally I think the black and white works very well with this story. Worth reading.

I loved the regional feel of it, the hockey, the snow, the bird that appears throughout, and I got reminded of CKLW- the radio station I remember hearing in Cleve-back in the day. Search it on goog and it's still a station- news out of Windsor- it had been a top 40 radio station- pioneering the top 40 format back when I was a listener (mid60s-70s). I will surely check out more of Jeff Lemire's work.

• I originally heard of Lemire because of his Vertigo title, Sweet Tooth, and later on because of the New 52 title Animal Man. After falling in love with his heart wrenching, emotional style of writing, I absolutely had to give the critically acclaimed Essex County a chance. It did not disappoint. If you're a fan of Lemire, and haven't read this collection of stories yet, you are doing yourself a disservice. The characters in the three main stories, and how they are all interconnected, will have your heart strings in a tizzy. I immediately connected with Lester and his feelings of alienation. Books like this are what's helping turn comic books into a legitimate form of literature.
  
  However, I do I have to give a warning - I don't think Lemire's art is for everyone. I think it's unique and stylized, but I could very easily see some people being turned off by it.
